‘theeighty’ is a myspace website designed to promote the fact that just over 80% of young South Australians DON’T smoke.
Why myspace?
Myspace is a great avenue to communicate with young people. It allows for information to be delivered in an interactive way as well as giving young people the opportunity to interact with us by asking questions, providing comments, entering competitions and so on. Myspace is one of the most popular social networking websites around.
What is ‘the eighty’?
The eighty is a phrase we have developed which acts as a platform to promote the fact just over 80% of the young South Australians DON’T smoke. ‘The eighty’ is a positive way to reinforce this message to promote and raise awareness that if you DON’T smoke you are actually in the majority. ‘Theeighty’ is a South Australian specific myspace and the statistics represent South Australian data.
What will you find on ‘the eighty’?
The eighty includes the following sections:
Picture gallery section (The look or Pics)
The picture gallery contains pictures related to tobacco smoking including the national tobacco campaign pictures. This section also contains artwork produced for days such as National Youth Tobacco Free Day
TV ads/Videos section (Watch it)
This section allows for users to view anti-tobacco television commercials as well as Vlogs (Video Logs-In this case video diaries) from Australia and overseas as well the anti-tobacco commercials produced by students involved in the Young Directors Festival.
Blogging (Blog it)
This sections acts as an avenue for young people to write to each other and to theeighty asking questions and providing advice to other users
Competition section (Win it!)
This section will see four competitions run every year on the site.
General comments
Young people have the opportunity to write comments in this section
Who is ‘the eighty’ for?
The eighty is primarily a site for young people aged 10-25 years but is suitable for all ages and it is a place where young people can go to help them quit smoking.
