You've quit ... so what happens next?

Right now you've probably lasted a week or two - or even a month - without a cigarette. Fantastic! You're on your way.

But sometimes when the initial feeling of achievement wears off, it can start getting a bit harder - sometimes really hard. Stay focussed - it will get easier!

Other people feel so confident, that they think just one won't hurt - it'll be easy to go back. But after years of talking to people who are quitting, we know that this is one of the big traps.

Beware

One cigarette might undo all your hard work. Don't be tempted!

For most people, 'just one' can turn back into everyday smoking. You need to think and plan ahead to avoid falling into the trap.

Identify

your feelings
what makes you want a cigarette
the common traps and situations that may lead you straight back to smoking
what to do when you feel like having 'just one' - whatever the reason.

BE ALERT!
Recognise when you might want a cigarette

Everyday situations and behaviours
Feelings
Stress
Social occasions

Practise what you'll do.

Look after yourself by

eating well
getting enough sleep
going for a walk every day
meditation or relaxation exercises
putting on soothing music
just looking at a sunset
trying massage or aromatherapy
taking up a new hobby or activity
doing something special for yourself
