Smoking cessation training for health professionals
Quitskills basic training
Quitskills training workshops have been provided to health professionals in South Australia since 1993. Many health professionals in the state have undertaken an initial Quitskills training workshop. Quitskills training is important because it provides the knowledge and skills necessary for health professionals to integrate smoking cessation into their work with clients.
All participants receive a certificate of attendance, manuals and materials.
This 4 hour workshop provides basic information about smoking and quitting and aims to increase health professionals' ability to deal with smokers and motivate them to quit.
This training can be adapted to suit your particular needs, and is suitable for a wide range of health professionals with an interest in helping people to stop smoking.
Sessions are held in both metropolitan and rural locations, according to demand.
In response to feedback from participants at the initial training workshops, a second tier of training has been developed.
Quitskills 2 is an intensive training package designed to give health professionals who have already attended Quitskills the necessary skills for one to one counselling and to facilitate the 2 Quit SA courses (Motivational talks and the Short Course) for their clients.
