Smoke-free Pregnancy Project

Objective 1
To educate and increase the number of health professionals undertaking brief smoking cessation interventions for pregnant and postnatal women and their partners.

Objective 2
To increase the incidence of smoke-free pregnancies, and reduce relapse post partum for those women who have quit.

Objective 3
To increase smoking cessation rates, and increase the uptake and use of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) for pregnant women and their partners.

Objective 4
To increase the publics awareness of tailored smoking cessation services for pregnant women and of the health effects of environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) to stimulate intentions to quit and increase cessation via increased calls to the Quitline.

Objective 5
To encourage system change within the participating health services that will support the roll out of the Project.

Objective 6
To develop supportive policy at Health Services to reduce the uptake of smoking, to help people to quit and increase smoke-free environments.
 
Objective 7
Support Aboriginal Health Workers to undertake a brief smoking cessation intervention with Aboriginal women and their families.
