Youth Tobacco-Free Day

Youth Tobacco Free Day (YTFD) is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of tobacco as a health and social issue among young people aged 10 to 25 years in Australia.   YTFD was hels on March 19 and highlighted the cost of smoking and encouraged young people to think about other things they could spend their money on.

Young people aged 10-25 years were encouraged to enter the on-line competition by simply playing the interactive game 'Scary maths; and filling in their contact details to go  in the random draw to win a range of prizes including signed gear from the Hilltop Hoods, iTunes vouchers and gift cards to their favourite clothing store.

An on-line poll called for young people  to cast their vote asking if cigarette prices increased to $20.00 a packet, whether this would encourage them to quit smoking or prevent them from taking up smoking. The results of the poll showed 73% of young people voted yes!

Big Day Out

Quit SA hosts an information stall each year at the Big Day Out. The Quit SA information stall uses a smokerlyser to provide free carbon monoxide testing throughout the day. Non-smokers as well as smokers can have their carbon monoxide levels tested to see their level of passive smoking. People can talk to professional Quitline counsellors on the day if they would like to know more about quitting smoking. Information brochures and merchandise are also available for those interested.  So if you are going to be at the Big Day Out, come on over and check out our stall!
