Expert advice and support for young people, teachers and the education sector
The STSSA Schools Project aims to prevent young people from becoming or continuing to be smokers through conducting effective programs in schools and with young people in the community. The Smarter than Smoking message specifically targets the 10-15 year old age group. This project began in WA as an initiative of Healthway, developed by a coalition of WA government and non-government organisations and managed by the National Heart Foundation (WA Division).
Smarter than Smoking SA projects and resources include:

The guidelines were developed in collaboration with representatives from the three education sectors, Early Childhoos Australia and other key stakeholders, and have been trialled by South Australian schools.
The guidelines have been endorsed by the three education sectors and Early Childhoos Australia and are available free to all SA schools and childcare centres. They are both a source of information about smoking as well as a practical document for schools and early childhood centres to use to develop a smoke-free policy.

This resource was developed collaboratively by Quit SA and the Peer Support Foundation of South Australia.
