In 2004, Quit SA was funded to take over the functions of the Youth Action Against Smoking (YAAS) group. A dedicated Youth worker works closely with young people out of school settings (16-25) in a range of settings such as tertiary institutions, youth councils and workplaces. This work has resulted in the formation of a group of youth advocates based in universities and TAFE colleges (Generate O2) and has reached out to thousands of young people through participation at university O’Week carnivals.
Skilled Smoke-Out!
Quit SA has developed a package that provides youth workers and other health professionals working with young people, in out-of-school settings with the knowledge and skills to integrate smoking prevention and cessation into their current practice and programs. This package includes a training workshop and resource kit to assist youth professionals in empowering young people to make decisions conducive to a smoke-free lifestyle.

Youth Professionals can subscribe to the Generate O2 Newsletter. The newsletter is sent out three times per year via email. It is a great opportunity to be kept in the loop around activities and opportunities for youth professionals and young people provided by Quit SA. The information can be used to promote being smoke-free to young people in interactive and youth friendly ways.
